The legislation provides measures to promote food safety and quality, to establish and maintain essential national standards as well as regulate the import and export of certain products:
Food Safety Agency prides itself on its excellent, dedicated and experienced team that is deployed nationally in order to ensure food safety and quality to consumers in South Africa and the rest of the SADC region.
The management team is comprised of personnel with extensive experience in the food industry. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr Louis Visagie is well known and has many years’ experience in the meat industry and has extensive experience in managing a large company. Mr Visagie is supported by his senior management team consisting of Dr Hein Nel, Manager: Veterinary Services; Mr Rassie Smit, Manager: Red Meat; Mr Ram Ramburan, Manager: Operations; Ms Theresa Diogo, Manager: Administration and Training; Mrs Nicole Bergh, Manager: Quality Assurance; Mr Hennie Joubert, Manager: Eggs; Mr Monti Ramaano, Manager: Poultry Meat; Ms Palesa Mpana, Manager: Processed Meat Products and Mrs Liezel Nieuwoudt, Manager: Finance.
The remainder of the team consists of Regional Managers, Assistant Regional Managers and 553 suitably qualified personnel.
